Wooster Invite Concludes as Women Capture Second, Men Fourth

The Wooster Invitational wrapped up on Saturday as the women's swim team improved their standing to second overall and the men stayed in fourth.

The women finished with a total of 1,219.5 points. They edged Gannon University by 109.5 points but could not catch up to the leader, Case Western Reserve University, who finished with 2,163 points.

Meanwhile, the men scored 1,093 points, just missing out on overtaking third-place Westminster College who finished with 1,105 points for third. Again, Case Western Reserve finished on top with a total of 2,205 points for first place.

In day three, the women exceled in the distance race as Nell Kacmarek and Emma Fikse finished first and second in the 1650 free. Kacmarek finished in a time of 17:52.35, and Fikse followed at 17:56.66.

Brooke Brown took first in the 100 IM with a time of 1:02.42. Annabelle Hopkins finished fourth (1:04.97) and Heidi Likins finished fifth (1:05.03).

Molly Likins finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.45. Madison Whitman was eighth (2:29.71).

In the 200 fly, Anne Bowers was second (2:14.13), and Kalla Sturonas was sixth (2:15.92). Hannah Langer finished fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:10.94).

To close, the 400 free relay squad of Fikse, Brown, Kacmarek and Kate Murphy finished sixth with a time of 3:39.53.

For the men, senior Cameron Gelwicks swam a 46.36 to take home first place in the 100 free. Ryan Campbell was eighth (47.43).

In the 100 IM, the men claimed the fifth through eighth spots behind Craig Klumpp (56.82), Sam Muse (56.94), Wylie Greeson (56.95) and Burke Poeting (57.02).

Garrett Layde was fifth in the 200 fly (1:56.99), and Eric Jacques was eighth in the 1-meter diving (362.15) portion.

Finally, to end the meet the 400-free relay team of Gelwicks, Wyatt Foss, Michael Crookshanks and Campbell finished fifth with a time of 3:09.75).

The swim teams will get an extended break following this weekend's action. They return to the pool Jan. 18 when they host John Carroll University.
