Scots defeat Bishops, Fall to Gators in Home Finale

In their final home meet of the season The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams split on Saturday with wins over Ohio Wesleyan University and losses to Allegheny College.

The men defeated Ohio Wesleyan 177-107 and fell to Allegheny 147-144. The women beat the Battling Bishops 215.5-63.5 and lost to the Gators 163-131.

The women entered with a 21 win streak in dual meets but that was broken with the loss to Allegheny.

The Wooster women won the 200 medley relay by just .52 seconds at 1:51.43 behind the team of Hannah Langer, Molly Likins, Anne Bowers and Lexi Riley-DiPaolo.

Likins later took the 100 breast in 1:06.20, while Madison Whitman finished in second at 1:09.19. Likins was also second in the 50 free with a time of 25.22.

In the 200 breaststroke, Whitman held off Likins this time for first place as the teammates came in at 2:26.73 and 2:27.33, respectively. Whitman also prevailed in the 400 IM, taking first in a time of 4:45.65.

Bowers was 1.3 seconds shy of first in the 200 fly as her time of 2:16.73 placed her second. Langer was second in the 200 back at 2:14.09.

Wooster finished one-two in the 100 and 500 freestyle races as Nell Kacmarek won the two events in 11:04.49 and 5:26.46. Kay Wetmore swam an 11:06.23 and 5:27.48 for second place each time.

For the men, Josh Gluck, Noah Golovan, Noah Fox and Jim Shanahan finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.39. Allegheny's time of 1:39.28 was the time to beat.

The Wooster men took the top three spots of the 100 backstroke as Gluck led the pack at 53.26. Graham Letkeman swam a 57.08 for second, and Eli Samuelson finished third at 57.14.

Later, Gluck won the 200 backstroke in 2:00.79. Samuelson (2:03.42), Letkeman (2:05.64) and Hunter Pierson followed (2:06.23). Gluck also was second in the 400 IM in 4:25.09.

Trey Schopen won the 200 butterfly in 2:01.33, well ahead of his competition by almost three seconds.

Schopen also won the 100 butterfly in 53.54, while Wylie Greeson (57.83) and Fox followed (58.02) in second and third, respectively. Schopen later placed second in the 100 free with a time of 50.36, less than a second off first place (49.49).

Eric Jacques scored 210.95 to place first in the 1 meter diving portion of the event and scored a 198.05 to defeat his lone competitor in the 3-meter diving event.

The teams will be back in the pool next Saturday when they travel to Baldwin Wallace University in their last meet before the NCAC Championships.
