The first day of the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships are in the books and Wooster has positioned themselves well for Saturday.

The women are currently sitting in second place with 43.5 points but has ground to make up if they want to catch Oberlin College, who sits in first with 76 points.

The men have 25 points which situates them in fourth place. Wabash College leads the field with 46 points, but Ohio Wesleyan (42) and Oberlin (41) are not far behind.

The pre-championship poll had both Wooster teams seeded fourth entering the weekend.

Following her All-NCAC Pentathlon win last weekend, senior Carolyn Webster supplied Wooster with even more points, returning to the winner's podium in the long jump. She earned All-NCAC honors with a jump of 17-06.75.

David Westcott was the other winner for the Scots on Friday. He started the running portion by picking up his All-NCAC honors in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:06.81.

Isabelle Hoover also earned All-NCAC honors after placing third in the women's 5,000 meter run behind a time of 18:44.12, as did Akwia Tilton with a third-place leap of 17 feet, 2 inches in the long jump.

The men's distance medley relay closed the day strong earning All-NCAC honors with a second place finish and setting a new school record at 10:28.44. The team consisted of Aedan Pettit, Matt Olszewski, Matt Klonowski and Brian Lief as the anchor.

Sophomore Georgia Hopps-Weber scored for the Scots and just missed out on All-NCAC recognition with a fourth place pole vault reaching 10 feet, nine inches.

A number of Scots also qualified for their respective finals on Saturday.

Webster and Jordan Dennis both qualified for the finals in their respective 60-meter hurdles event. Webster ran the race Friday in 9.64 seconds and Dennis ran it in 8.9 seconds.

Both teams qualified for the 400 dash thanks to freshmen William McMichael (51.91) and Maya Vasta (1:02.42). Klonowski (2:00.28) and Emani Kelley (2:22.61) will race in their respective 800 meter runs.

Korri Palmer will race in the 60 dash finals (8.23), and Tilton will do the same in the 200 dash (27.05).

Day 2 begins Saturday with field events starting at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 2:15 p.m.
