Seniors Brian Lief and David Westcott won the 1,500 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, to headline The College of Wooster track and field team's performances at the Wooster Invitational, hosted by the College on Friday and Saturday.

Westcott, who has the second-fastest time in the steeplechase in Div. III this spring, thanks to his 9:18.36 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, posted a similar time of 9:23.39 on Friday afternoon. In fact, Westcott coasted to the finish, as his time was nearly 50 ticks better than Kenyon College's William Oakley, who was the runner-up at 10:12.47.

Senior Brian Lief was first of 43 competitors in the 1,500 meters.

On Saturday, Lief earned the blue ribbon in a 43-competitor field with a time of 4:08.78, which was two seconds on the dot better than the University of Mount Union's John Wahlie.

Sticking with the men, Wooster placed fourth of 11 teams with 81 points, and first-year William McMichael was a big reason why. The Scots' rookie scored eight individual points courtesy of a fourth-place time of 50.53 in the 400 meters and a sixth-place effort of 23.29 in the 200 meters. McMichael capped his day as the anchor of Wooster's runner-up 4x400 relay that crossed second at 3:37.18.

Junior Aedan Pettit led a trio of scorers in the 800 meters with the third-place time of 2:00.10, while senior Jackson Feinknopf posted a top-five showing in the 5,000 meters at 15:48.24, in what marked his first outdoor sub-16:00 5K.

In the jumps, first-year Kristian Coleman measured out at 41 feet, 5 inches in the triple jump to post a second-place finish, while classmate Richard Pajak wasn't far behind at 38 feet, 1.5 inches.

Senior Cody Park (javelin, 120 feet, 5 inches) and Wooster's 4x100 (43.54) consisting of sophomore Drake Pence, Coleman, sophomore Cam Pollard, and senior Justin Fox rounded out the Scots' top-five finishers for the meet.

On the women's side, first-year Marian Overfield's second-place time of 12:09.70 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase led the way for Wooster, which placed fifth out of 12 teams with 72.5 points.

A bulk of Wooster's scoring came from relays and jumps. In relay action, junior Akwia Tilton, first-year Maya Vasta, junior Korri Palmer, and senior Emani Kelley were second in the 4x400 at 4:22.86, while the Scots' quartet of Palmer, Vasta, first-year Claudia Partridge, and Tilton teamed up for a 51.11 to take third in the tightly-contested 4x100.

Tilton, who scored in five events at the meet, measured out at 17 feet, 6 inches, which was good for fourth-place in the long jump, while sophomore Jena Copley was eighth at 15 feet, 9 inches. In the triple jump, first-year Saralee Renick and senior Mallory Crane both surpassed 31 feet to finish in the top-five.

Copley's 93 feet, 9 inches in the javelin and first-year Isabelle Hoover's 18:36.41 in the 5,000 meters rounded out the Scots' top-five placers.

Mount Union placed first with 204.5 points on the men's side and 160.5 points in the women's standings.
