2019 W Association Hall of Fame Inductee Profile - Colleen McCauley Piscetta '89

Colleen McCauley

The College of Wooster track and field program boasted some of its deepest, most talented teams in the late 1980s, and Colleen McCauley's ability to fit into the team concept and excel at the major meets was a big reason why.

With a talented core of fellow W Association Hall of Famers – Univer Bukhala, Stephanie Kazmierski, and Katie Keller – plus Holly Halterman headlining a strong sophomore class, McCauley proved to be the last ingredient for the Fighting Scots to reign atop the fledging North Coast Athletic Conference. At her freshman year indoor conference meet, McCauley helped the Scots improve from third to first as part of Wooster's first-place 880-yard relay, while individually, she crossed third in the 440-yard dash. Come outdoor season, Wooster repeated as the conference champion. McCauley ran on Wooster's first-place 4x100 relay, in what marked the second of four straight championships for the College in the event, and she collected two other all-conference certificates in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay.

"Colleen was the total team player," summed up Craig Penney, the Scots' head coach at the time. "She was a vital component in our relays and sprint group. Colleen was going to give you everything for the advancement of the team and she was a winner."

Wooster's team continued to reach new heights during McCauley's sophomore year. After winning a third consecutive NCAC outdoor title, a strong contingent of Scots qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships at Naperville, Ill. There, McCauley, and the Scots' 4x100 relay, crossed in sixth-place at 49.1 seconds to earn All-American honors, and no relay since has made the podium. At the conference championships, McCauley helped a quartet of talented relays finish first, while individually, she collected all-conference certificates in the indoor 300- and 440-yard dashes and the outdoor 400 meters.

The Scots were poised for a breakthrough performance at the 1988 NCAA Div. III Championships, and Penney was confident he had a top-10 squad come nationals. McCauley, a qualifier in 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100 relay, pulled a hamstring in the 200 meters, but her talented teammates stepped up and delivered a quartet of All-American performances, which resulted in an 11th-place finish.

Leading up to the NCAA Div. III Championships, McCauley helped the Scots to a first-place finish in the 4x100 at the NCAC Championships. The Scots' time of 48.44 stood as the meet record for 27 years.

As a senior, McCauley gave it her all come the NCAC Outdoor Championships and capped her career with all-conference performances in the 100 and 200 meters. That gave her a combined 18 all-NCAC certificates in track, a total that ranked fourth upon graduation, and a mark only four Wooster greats have surpassed since.

A gifted all-around athlete, McCauley joined the women's soccer team in 1986 for the program's second season  and played basketball as a junior.

McCauley self-designed her own major and graduated with a degree in sports medicine. Since graduation, she's worked in a variety of roles for major manufacturers in the aerospace, automotive, medical, agriculture, and energy industries. At present, she's an information technology and operations consultant at Heilind Electronics, one of the world's leading distributors for interconnect, electromechanical, and sensor products.

McCauley married the late Robert Piscetta, one of the top baseball players in Wooster's tradition-rich program. They are believed to be the first couple inducted into the W Association Hall of Fame.

The Piscettas have two children, Madeline (25) and Kate (22), and Colleen lives in Wadsworth, Ohio.
