GRANVILLE, Ohio – First-year Korey Simmons broke The College of Wooster track and field team's school record in the 60-meter hurdles, while the Fighting Scots' women had a pair of first-place finishes at Saturday's Bob Shannon Invitational, which was contested at Denison University. Wooster's men placed sixth out of 10 teams, while the women came in seventh.

Simmons' third-place time of 8.79 seconds came in just under Jordan Dennis' old school-record of 8.83 seconds set back in 2018. Fellow first-years Joe Shilts and Justin Jones also scored for the Scots at Saturday's meet. Shilts crossed seventh at 9.22 seconds, while Jones was right behind at 9.38 seconds.

Wooster nearly broke another record on Saturday. Junior Mark Herron crossed third at 7.20 seconds in the 60-meter dash, with that time ranking just behind Ben Kingstone's 2016 record of 7.17 seconds. Classmate Drake Pence wasn't far behind either, as he took sixth in the event on Saturday at 7.28 seconds.

Senior Miki Rae's runner-up showing in the 3,000 meters (9:01.82) was the highest finish for Wooster's men on Saturday. Senior Aedan Pettit took fourth in the mile at 4:36.80, while first-year Luke Henke had the Scots' other top-four finish. Henke cleared 5 feet, 10.75 inches in the high jump.

On the women's side, sophomore Maya Vasta beat out 25 other competitors in the 200 meters with a time of 27.22 seconds. In the 400 meters, she was the runner-up (1:02.36) in a 25-competitor field.

Sophomore Isabelle Hoover broke away from the field in the 5,000 meters. She crossed at 18:33.91, nearly 26 seconds before Kenyon College's Eleanor Tetreault, who was the runner-up at 18:59.36. Of note, Hoover's time is currently No. 1 within the North Coast Athletic Conference this season.

Sophomore Morgan Kromer cleared 9 feet, 6.25 inches in the pole vault to lead the Scots' field entrants. She tied for third-place, thanks to clearing the height on her first try. Junior Georgia Hopps-Weber also cleared 9 feet, 6.25 inches. She placed fifth.

Sophomore Marian Overfield had Wooster's other top-six finish. She crossed at 11:34.99 in the 3,000 meters.

Case Western Reserve University's men and Ohio Wesleyan University's women were the team champions. The Spartans had 129.5 points, while the Battling Bishops had 165. Wooster's men had 44.5 points, while the women tallied 41.5.

Up next, Wooster competes at the All-Ohio Championships, which are held at Otterbein University on Saturday, February 15.
