Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Joe Shilts, a communication studies and education major from Flemington, New Jersey. Shilts is a member of the football and track & field teams.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to come to Wooster because I had a good relationship with the coaches and I enjoyed the campus environment.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being part of a new family and meeting friends for life.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I.S. Monday as a sophomore and handing out in Gault Manor for 62 straight days.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Being able to be part of something bigger than myself and contributing to great sports teams.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am in Phi Sigma Alpha fraternity.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Professor (Gretchen) Tefs, Coach (Dennis) Rice, and Coach (Frank) Colaprete because they have helped become the man I am today.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Katy Perry and my parents.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am doing research on how new technology in sports is affecting athletic success.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I went on trips to Myrtle Beach with the track & field team over spring break.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Make the most of the opportunities given to you.
