The College of Wooster couldn't find any rhythm offensively, as it shot a season-low 25.8 percent (17-of-66) from the field in a 90-45 setback Saturday afternoon to archrival Wittenberg University.
The Fighting Scots' (5-8, 0-5 NCAC) best sequence took place at the beginning of the second half, when they constructed a 7-0 scoring run, which started with a free throw make by Sydney Grier. Soon after, Lauren Hancher knocked down a jumper, and then Maura Hall pulled down a defensive rebound on Wittenberg's ensuing possession, which led to a Karley Walker transition lay-up.
Finally, Suvi Puripattarapan came up with a steal, and after a Scot timeout, Hancher scored in the paint on an assist from Puripattarapan, which capped off the scoring run.
Aside from that, Wooster struggled to keep up with a hot-shooting Wittenberg (8-5, 3-2 NCAC) squad, as the hosts made 31-of-61 shots (.508), including eight 3-pointers, and went 20-for-31 (.645) from the free throw line.
The Tigers also got a record-breaking day from Amber Rice, as she set a new program-best in points with 36, and added 10 rebounds.
Hancher scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the second half, on her way to a sixth-straight double-digit performance, while Walker was next in line with 10 points. Rachel Collins also turned in a strong performance off the bench with seven points and a team-high six boards.
Next up, the Scots will look to notch a win over Oberlin College (8-5, 3-1 NCAC) in Wednesday's 6 p.m. match-up at Timken Gymnasium.
