Scots Score First Win Behind Croxton’s 25-point Performance

WOOSTER, Ohio – Senior Kyle Croxton scored a career-high 25 points to lead The College of Wooster women's basketball team to their first win, a 79-69 victory over Finlandia University in the 2018 Nan Nichols Classic on Saturday.

Croxton went 9-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the arch as the Scots shot 50 percent from the floor (29-for-58). The Scots also shot well from deep at 65 percent (11-for-17).

Kylie Orr was a big part of that, scoring 17 points off the bench and shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range. Freshman Jenna Stanton also made a 3-pointer for her first points as a Scot.

Senior Anna Gibbs added nine points and led the team with seven assists, six steals and five rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Rapacz also scored nine points and added three rebounds and two blocks.

Harlee Froberg led the Lions with 22 points off the bench. Katie Lundeen added 21 points.

Finlandia's largest lead came at 24-20 with 6:41 remaining in the second quarter. Wooster then went on a 10-0 run to take the lead for good in a sequence that saw Croxton score eight points.

The Scots led 33-28 at halftime. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Orr and Croxton expanded that lead to 11 at 47-36 midway through the third quarter.

The lead got to as high as 13 at 62-49 with 6:21 remaining in the game.

Wooster scored 28 points off turnovers, 24 in the paint and 10 off of second chance opportunities. They were outrebounded 36-29 but collected 19 steals to Finlandia's 10.

Wooster improved to 1-1 in the early season, while Finlandia fell to 0-4 on the year.

To begin the Nan Nichols Classic, Carnegie Mellon University defeated Franklin College 74-60. On Sunday, Carnegie Mellon will face Finlandia at 1 p.m., and Wooster and Franklin will follow at 3 p.m.
