WOOSTER, Ohio -- Senior Anna Gibbs scored a game-high 17 points and moved to fifth in program history with 1,216 points as the The College of Wooster women's basketball team lost to Wittenberg University 87-49 on Saturday.
Gibbs actually surpassed head coach Lisa Panepento, who scored 1,201 points from 1983-87. In her past five games, Gibbs is averaging 21.4 ppg.
Gibbs, along with Kyle Croxton, were two seniors honored prior to the game. Croxton finished with seven points.
Sophomore Maria Janasko scored 11 points and tallied six rebounds off the bench. Akwia Tilton scored seven points as well, and Aubri McKoy led the team with eight rebounds.
Wittenberg had five players in double figures, led by a 14-point performance from Alex Kiess. The Tigers finished shooting 49 percent (33-for-68) from the floor, 48 percent (10-for-21) from deep and 79 percent (11-for-14) from the foul line.
Wittenberg never trailed and jumped out to a 10-2 lead midway through the first quarter. Wooster opened the game 1-for-8 and closed the quarter on the wrong end of a 8-2 run.
The Tigers then shot 60 percent in the second quarter and connected on five 3-pointers and put together a 34-point quarter to take a 54-21 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Wooster stayed close, but Wittenberg still held a five-point edge.
Wittenberg held the rebounding advantage 46-35. Wooster committed 19 turnovers to Wittenberg's 11, and Wittenberg scored 22 points off of those turnovers.
The Tigers also outscored the Scots in the paint, 30-16, and in bench points, 43-14. They led by as much as 41.
Wittenberg improved to 16-8 with the win and 10-5 in the NCAC. Wooster drops to 6-17 overall and 2-12 in the conference.
The Scots will host Oberlin College on Wednesday for their home finale.
