Scots Can’t Complete Season Sweep of Yeowomen in Home Finale

Junior Akwia Tilton led Wooster with 11 points on Wednesday.

The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell 66-49 in its home finale on Wednesday and could not complete the season  sweep against Oberlin College.

Junior Akwia Tilton led the Scots with 11 points and was the only Scot to reach double figures. Maria Janasko scored nine, while seniors Kyle Croxton and Anna Gibbs each scored seven.

A'Janay Nicholson grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench.

The guard combination of Cheyenne Arthur and Leah Ross led Oberlin. Arthur scored 17 and Ross followed with 15. They were a combined 8-for-14 from 3-point range as the team finished 9-for-21 for the game.

Arthur and Ross were responsible for Oberlin's quick start and a 43-21 halftime lead. The duo had 24 of Oberlin's 43 points.

The Yeowomen shot 46 percent for the game (27-for-59). Wooster struggled with its shot, shooting 26 percent (19-for-72) from the floor, 20 percent (4-for-20) from deep and 44 percent (7-for-16) from the foul line.

Wooster's best stretch of the game came in the third quarter, which they won 20-13. They cut a 49-28 deficit to just 10 after a 11-0 run made it 49-39 with 1:48 left in the quarter.

However, an Oberlin timeout readjusted the Yeowomen as they brought the lead to 15 at the end of the third, 56-41. Oberlin then grew that lead to as many as 23 in the fourth.

Wooster won the rebounding battle 44-43. Wooster held slight advantages in bench points (19-16), fast break points (11-7) and second chance points (12-9), but Oberlin outscored the Scots in the paint 26-18.

Oberlin improves to 15-9 overall and 10-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Wooster drops to 6-18 overall and 2-13 in the conference. Wooster will wrap up its regular season Saturday when they travel to DePauw University.
