The College of Wooster women's golf team's historic season continued over the weekend, as the Fighting Scots finished second and broke a pair of school records at the Laura Bump Invitational held at the par-72, 5,819-yard Mill Creek Golf Club in Ostrander, Ohio.
Hannah Appleman's 75 on Saturday marked the lowest round in program history. The Scots' junior finished one shot better than five 76s that were previously turned in by Wooster's linksters, most recently by alumnae Hannah Buzolits and Victoria Roney at the 2017 Wooster Spring Invitational.
During the 2017 tournament, Buzolits and Roney keyed a 319 in the first round of the, but on Saturday the Scots one bettered that score as well. Sophomore Tongtong Wu backed Appleman's score up with a 76, while classmates Lilly Dunning and Megan Gronau weren't that far behind at 82 and 85.
Wu's 79 led the Scots on Sunday, and she placed fourth at 155. Noteworthy, Wu's score was two strokes off the program record for a 36-hole tournament.
Appleman and Dunning both carded top-10 showings at 161 and 163, respectively, while Gronau's 167 placed her in a tie for 13th-place.
Junior Kaci Carpenter rounded out the Scots' lineup for the weekend. She placed 17th with a 173.
Sophomore Devon Matson and first-year Meghan Wright led a quartet of Scots playing as individuals with matching scores of 186.
Wittenberg University easily won the six-team tournament at 616, while Wooster's 646 was two strokes better than third-place Mount Saint Joseph University's 666. The Tigers' Devon Atchison captured medalist honors with a 3-over-par 147.
Next, Wooster hosts its own Spring Invitational at Mohican Hills Golf Club in Jeromesville, Ohi. Saturday's round is set for a 1 p.m. shotgun start, with action set to pick back up at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
