Tongtong Wu's back-to-back 78s earned The College of Wooster sophomore runner-up honors at the Wooster Spring Invitational, which was hosted by the College over the weekend at Mohican Hills Golf Club in Jeromesville, Ohio. Wooster, which finished fifth at 680, hosted its largest tournament in program history, as the Fighting Scots welcomed 13 teams this weekend.

Wu entered the day tied with Denison University's Emmy Timberlake for the lead, with the Big Red standout going on to distance herself from the field by four strokes with a 74 on Sunday. Wu's 156 was three strokes clear of the third-place 159s turned in by Denison's Megan Wong and Megan Munn.

Noteworthy, Wu's 156 was one stroke off her career-best of 155 set at last week's Ohio Wesleyan University Laura Bump Invitational.

Junior Hannah Appleman continued to come out of the gate strong this spring, with an opening 82 on Saturday. Appleman followed that up with a 93 on Sunday to finish at 175 and in 27th-place.

Sophomore Lilly Dunning was the third-place finisher within the team for the weekend. Dunning was one of two Scots who posted a lower score over the final 18 holes of play. Dunning shot a 90 on Saturday and bettered that by three strokes to finish tied for 32nd-place.

Sophomore Megan Gronau delivered the biggest improvement on Sunday. Gronau's 86 marked the second-lowest round for the team over the final 18 holes. She tied for 37th-place at 179.

Junior Kaci Carpenter rounded out the Scots' lineup with a 180, which placed her in a tie for 39th. Carpenter's tournament was headlined by an 86 on Saturday, which was the team's third-lowest round of the day.

First-year Kayla Audette led a quartet of Scots who played as individuals with a 180. She finished third out of the 25 individual entrants who completed both rounds of play.

Denison cruised to the team title, with the Big Red's 648 ranking 15 strokes better than runner-up Otterbein University's 663.

Next, Wooster's at the Earlham College Spring Invitational, which will be contested April 19-20 at Elks Lodge and Country Club in Richmond, Ind.
