The College of Wooster's women's golf team opened its 2021 slate against Denison University on Saturday, with the Big Red taking the match 352-372 at the par-72, 5,803-yard Wooster Country Club.
Senior Megan Gronau logged Wooster's lowest score of the day at 85, which was good for third-place. The neuroscience major's eight pars were the second-most on the day, and she led the field with a 4.60 average on par-four holes.
Classmate Tongtong Wu placed fourth with an 89. The psychology major was dialed in on the par-5 holes, as she played those four holes at 1-over-par.
First-year Melissa Cooke debuted with a 96. Cooke's first collegiate round was headlined by back-to-back pars on holes seven and eight.
Senior Devon Matson and sophomore Riley Thorr rounded out the Scots' lineup. Matson carded a 102, while Thorr logged a 106.
First-year Drew Patterson competed as an individual and shot a 123.
Denison's Megan Wong was the medalist with an 11-over-par 83.
Wooster's back in action on Sunday with the Scots taking on Ohio Wesleyan University and Wittenberg University at Springfield Country Club.
