COLUMBUS, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team opened 2019 with an 18-7 win over Capital University on Saturday.

After a season-ending injury derailed her 2017-18 season, senior Jordan Stone returned with a four-goal performance. Her classmate Emma Lawrence, last year's team leader in points, also scored four goals, picking up right where she left off last season.

The rest of the Scots' production came from two-goal performances from five separate players – Jenny Grossmann, Laura Papp, Megan Healy, Ashley Boersma and Sydney Schuster.

Capital opened with an early 1-0 advantage before Wooster scored the next four goals. Their first came a player down as Grossmann put the Scots on the board.

The next two goals came from Lawrence in a span of under a minute. Stone then collected her first goal to make it a 4-1 game.

Capital (1-1) made it 4-2 before Wooster answered with another four goals. Grossmann scored before Papp notched her first goal. Healy then scored her two goals in a span of a minute.

Wooster (1-0) led 10-4 at halftime. They had two more stretches of four unanswered goals in the second half.

Stone and Boersma scored 13 seconds apart, and Papp and Lawrence scored 30 seconds apart. Stone scored her fourth goal with 16:08 remaining, and Lawrence scored her fourth with 10:16 left in the game. Schuster finished scoring for the Scots with 8:20 remaining.

Katie Shideler made nine saves to collect the win.

Wooster outshot Capital 41-21, held the advantage in draw controls 16-10 and collected 31 groundballs to Capital's 20.

The Scots will return to action Thursday when they travel to Westminster (Pa.).
