Scots Capture First Shutout Since 2011 in 17-0 Rout Over Bethany

The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team recorded its first shutout since 2011 and defeated first-year program Bethany College 17-0 on Saturday.

The Scots put this one out of reach early, scoring its first goal just seconds into the game with a score from Ashley Boersma and an assist from Laura Papp. A minute had not even passed when Alexa Mellis made it a 2-0 lead.

Wooster led 6-0 with 25:12 left in the first half. Production was spread out in that span as Emma Lawrence, Jenny Grossmann, Megan Healy and Jordan Stone all scored.

The Scots led 13-0 at halftime. They scored their final six goals a player down.

Mellis led the Scots with four goals and two assists. Grossmann, Papp, Lawrence, Boersma and Caitlyn O'Connor all finished with two goals.

Healy, Stone and Sydney Schuster each recorded one. Papp also tied Mellis with a team-high two assists.

Katie Shideler collected three saves in the shutout.

Wooster outshot the Bison 33-3. The Scots went 3-for-3 in clears and held the advantage in draw controls 15-3.

Back in 2011, the Scots defeated Waynesburg 20-0.

Wooster is now 3-0 in the young season and has outscored opponents 65-11. They will host Carthage at home on Thursday.
