Dominating Performance Puts Wooster 4-0

Rose Taylor anchored the defensive line on Thursday, holding Carthage to just two goals.

The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team dominated in all aspects of their game Thursday night as they defeated Carthage College 23-2.

Wooster improves to 4-0 as each of their four wins has come by double digits. Thursday's game was their largest margin of victory so far.

Alexa Mellis finished with a game-high six goals and added three assists. Laura Papp scored four goals and three assists.

Emma Lawrence, Ashley Boersma and Caitlyn O'Connor all reached three goals. Jenny Grossmann and Megan Healy each added a pair.

First-year Caroline Dent collected the win in her first start as goalkeeper. She made three saves.

Wooster scored the first 10 goals of the game, two of which came with a player up on the field. Grossmann scored the game's first goal only to be followed by a sequence of goals from Papp and Lawrence. Mellis scored the next two before Papp and Lawrence once again found the back of the net.

Healy scored with 17:03 remaining in the first half. Lawrence and Mellis each added another tally before Carthage got on the board at 10:46.

Wooster closed the first half with four unanswered goals behind Boersma, O'Connor, Papp and Mellis.

The second half was more of the same for the Scots. They scored the first four goals before a score from Carthage, and then ended the game scoring the final five.

Wooster succeeded on 3-of-5 free position shots and were successful on 11-of-16 clears. They had 17 ground balls and 17 draw controls. They also outshot Carthage 36-7.

The Scots will take their 4-0 record into spring break where they will face Curry College in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on March 11.
