Scots Win Streak Snapped at 10 After 14-6 Loss to Denison

Jenny Grossmann looks for an open teammate during the team's loss on Wednesday.

Denison University stayed undefeated in the North Coast Athletic Conference and snapped The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team's win steak in a 14-6 contest on Wednesday.

Denison is now 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the NCAC, while Wooster moved to 10-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Denison point leader Kiely Noonan kept her contribution up with a game-high four goals and two assists. Ashley Boersma carried Wooster with two goals and two assists.

The Big Red went up on Wooster 3-0 within the first five minutes. They scored the game's first seven goals before Megan Healy put Wooster on the board with 13:20 remaining in the first half.

That would be Wooster's only goal in the half, and they trailed 8-1 at halftime.

Wooster came out strong in the second half with back-to-back goals from Boersma and Laura Papp. Boersma was assisted by Grossmann, and Papp's score was a free position shot.

However, Denison answered with two goals of their own before Boersma found Alexa Mellis to make it 10-4.

Both teams traded goals for the rest of the game before Denison scored two late. Boersma and Caitlyn O'Connor scored with assists from Grossmann and Jordan Stone, respectively.

Denison outshot Wooster 38-18. Wooster capitalized on just 1-of-7 free position shots, while Denison hit 3-of-7 of their own.

Wooster goalkeeper Katie Shideler made 12 saves, while Denison's Hannah Magarian made five.

Denison won 13 draw controls to Wooster's nine. Wooster was 20-of-26 in clears to Denison's 23-of-30.

The Scots travel to Hiram on Saturday and will look to start another winning streak there.
