GAMBIER, Ohio – A relentless attack from The College of Wooster women's soccer team kept them undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference play as they defeated Kenyon College 3-1 on Wednesday.
Amidst falling rain, the Scots outshot the Ladies 20-6 and made good work out of their six corner kicks. Senior Erica White continued to show off her offensive skill-set with two goals in the game, while Devin Frisby had two assists.
It was Frisby off the corner who found Miura Wiley for Wooster's first goal in the 17th minute. She found Wiley on the left side of the goal as Wiley struck the game's first goal on her right foot.
The next three goals came in a span of three minutes in the first half.
The first, White made it a 2-0 game after finding some space from a long pass from Emma Lawrence. She got the goalie out of position and struck in the 53rd minute.
In the 55th minute, Kenyon scored its only goal via a penalty kick from Maia Emden to cut the lead to just one goal. However, less than a minute later Frisby found White on the other end of the field to give the Scots a much-needed insurance goal.
Wooster had a couple chances later to widen their lead but just fell short in doing so. Frisby had a free kick glance off the crossbar with about 30 minutes remaining, and towards the end of the game Krissy Blanchard had a shot on goal that was saved by a defender.
Molly Hutter and Maddy Ireton split time in the net. Hutter, who made one save, played the first half to collect the win. Ireton collected two saves in the second half.
Wooster (8-1-3) remains atop the NCAC with a 4-0 record, while Kenyon (4-4-3) falls to 0-1-2 in conference play. The last time these two teams met was in the 2017 NCAC Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals when Kenyon advanced on penalty kicks.
For White, it was goals nine and ten on the year for the senior. It is the first time since 2011 a Scot has scored 10-plus goals in a season (Paige Piper, 11).
The Scots will travel to Oberlin College on Saturday.
