OBERLIN, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team's four-game win streak was snapped Saturday after a 2-1 overtime loss to Oberlin College.
A foul just outside the right of the goal box set Oberlin up for the game winner in the 93rd minute. Bethany Gen hit a strike past goalkeeper Maddy Ireton, and Oberlin gave Wooster its first loss in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
Senior Erica White hit the equalizer to send the game into overtime in the 52nd minute after Wooster scored on its own free kick. Emma Lawrence squared up near the top of the box and found White for her 11th goal of the season.
Oberlin opened scoring in the 33rd minute as Sydnie Savarese scored her first goal of the season on a shot outside the box that went past goalkeeper Molly Hutter's reach.
Hutter recorded two saves in the first half. Ireton took over in the second half and played the overtime to take the loss.
Wooster outshot Oberlin 12-11 and had six shots on goal to Oberlin's four. Oberlin had six corner kicks, and the Scots took four.
Oberlin moved to 5-8-1 overall and 2-3 in the conference with the win, while Wooster fell to 8-2-3 overall and 4-1 in the NCAC. It was their sixth game this season that went into overtime.
The Scots host Hiram College on Oct. 16.
