Wooster Shuts Out Kalamazoo for Third Straight Win

Claire Davis escapes a Kalamazoo defender Sunday in route to a 2-0 win.

The Wooster women's soccer team scored quick and set the tone for what would be a 2-0 win over Kalamazoo College on Sunday.

Wooster capitalized on their first corner kick of the game at the six-minute mark when Kelsey Stone found Claire Davis whose header hit the mark. It was Davis's second goal of the young season.

The Scots took a 1-0 lead into halftime and padded it in the 59th minute when Miura Wiley's cross to Krenare Rakoci resulted in the senior's first goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Molly Hutter made six saves to record the shutout. Kalamazoo split duties in net as first-half goalie Maddie Odom took the loss.

Wooster outshot its counterpart 15-11 and held the corner kick advantage at 7-4. Rakoci almost had a second goal in the 70th minute but it hit the crossbar. Alexa Bencic also had a ball hit the crossbar in the second half as Wooster was just inches away of making it a three-score game.

Wooster remains unbeaten at 4-0-1 while Kalamazoo drops to 1-4-2. The Scots conclude their four-game homestand Saturday against Westminster College (Pa.) when they play the second game of a men-women doubleheader.
