Scots Tie With Tigers To Open NCAC Play

First-year Helena Janczak saw plenty of action in Saturday's 0-0 tie with DePauw.

The College of Wooster women's soccer team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday with a 0-0 tie against DePauw University.

Wooster outshot the opposition 13-8 as neither team could not find the back of the net. Junior Miura Wiley gave Wooster its best opportunity in the first overtime as a shot on goal got past the goalkeeper, but a DePauw defender was there in time to clear the ball away.

Wooster failed to finish on its eight corner kicks but succeeded in stopping DePauw's lone attempt. Junior Molly Hutter made two saves to record her seventh shutout, while her counterpart Reanna Stiehler made five.

This was the second consecutive year the two teams played into double overtime as last year Erica White scored with six seconds remaining to give the Scots the victory.

DePauw moves to 5-5-1 and 1-0-1 in the conference, while Wooster moves to 7-1-2 and 0-0-1 in the NCAC.

Wooster travels to Ohio Wesleyan University next Saturday for another NCAC showdown.
