Scots Shutout Wittenberg For Second Straight NCAC Win

Molly Hutter

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- In their first meeting since The College of Wooster women's soccer team defeated Wittenberg University 4-0 in last year's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game, the Scots stayed the victors on Saturday with a 1-0 win.

Junior Miura Wiley scored the game's only goal in the 58th minute, finding an opening on the right side and scoring. Wooster almost made it a 2-0 game just a minute after, but a shot from junior Mila Zunich was saved.

Otherwise, Wittenberg controlled possession throughout, outshooting Wooster 15-4. Credit goes to junior Molly Hutter for the shutout as she collected seven saves.

Wittenberg upped the intensity in the second half with 10 shots. Hutter had a pair of successful stops on corner kicks early in the half before Wiley found an opening to score. Hutter and the defense successfully fended off a total of seven corner kicks.

The win is Wooster's second straight in conference play as they move to 2-1-1 in the NCAC and 9-2-2 overall. Wittenberg falls to 2-3 in the conference and 5-7-2 overall.

Dating back to last year, the Scots have now won three-in-a-row against the Tigers. The Scots have outscored them 7-0 in those three games.

Next, Wooster returns home as to face Kenyon College on Wednesday.
