Scots Defeat Big Red 2-0, Finish Second in NCAC

Mila Zunich

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team defeated Denison University 2-0 on Saturday to conclude the regular season.

It was Wooster's third straight win as they finished North Coast Athletic Conference play in second place with 17 points and a record of 5-1-2. DePauw University (10-5-2, 6-0-2 NCAC) won the conference after defeating Kenyon College 1-0 on Saturday, which allowed Wooster to move up to second.

Wooster got it done on Saturday behind goals from juniors Mila Zunich and Miura Wiley.

After a scoreless first half, Zunich wasted little time, 22 seconds to be precise, to put Wooster on the board. Soon after in the 53rd minute, Wiley found herself in an open field and made a move around the Denison goalkeeper to put Wooster ahead 2-0.

Wooster had a few early breakaways in the first 20 minutes that led to a couple of shots on goal. Sophomore Holly Thompson had a shot saved right in front of the goal, and Wiley had another sail wide right after she blew past a defender.

Denison outshot the Scots 16-11 and was favored in the time of possession, but Wooster shined in its counterattack.

Junior Molly Hutter fought off six corners and collected four saves. She has not allowed a goal in six consecutive games.

Wooster is 12-2-3 overall and will prepare to host a NCAC Tournament semifinal game on Wednesday. The Scots should be familiar with their opponent as Denison (8-6-4, 5-2-1 NCAC) will make the trek to play at Carl Dale Field. The time for Wednesday's game is 2 p.m.

The other semifinal game on Wednesday will have fourth-seeded Kenyon (8-7-1, 5-2-1) traveling to DePauw.
