Scots Compete in Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – The women's tennis team competed in the 10th annual Oberlin Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday. No team scoring was kept.

Sophomore Laura Haley had a solid weekend, picking up two wins on each day.  On Saturday, she picked up a singles win after a retirement and then teamed with freshman Meklit Minassie for an 8-1 doubles win.

On Sunday, Minassie and Haley took an 8-7 (1) doubles win over Oberlin's Rebecca Shiloff and Hannah Keidan. Haley also beat Keidan in a singles match 4-1, 1-4, 10-5.

Minassie, meanwhile, took a 4-3 (4), 4-3 (4) win over Allegheny's Savannah Gray.

Junior Mahlet Zemedkun won a pair of singles matches 4-0, 4-2 and 4-3 (5), 4-0.

Sarah Duran and Shannon Sertz won 8-3 over Ohio Northern's Abigail Staskiewicz and Katie Curry. Sertz picked up a singles win by defeating West Liberty's Carleyah McLean 4-3 (3), 4-3 (1).

Kendra Devereux and Rebecca LaRue had an 8-3 doubles win. LaRue won a singles match 4-3 (1), 4-2, and Emma Saxton won another 4-3, 4-1.

The women will return to action Sept. 21 to compete in the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich.
