Scots Take Part in ITA Regionals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The College of Wooster women's tennis team competed in the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich. this weekend.

In the singles bracket, Sarah Duran fell to DePauw University's Emma Love 6-3, 6-3. Shannon Sertz lost 6-1, 6-1 to Washington University's Lisa Chionis. They then each lost in the consolation bracket, Duran 6-1, 6-1 to Washington's Grace Hederick and Sertz 6-0, 7-6 (3) to Case Western Reserve University's Shreya Mukund.

Meklit Minassie had the most success in singles action. After falling in the opener 6-0, 6-0, she came back to win in the first round of the consolation side 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 against Hannah Keidan of Oberlin College. She exited in the next round against John Carroll University's Madisyn Rini 6-0, 6-2.

Finally, Laura Haley took a 6-3, 6-4 loss to John Carroll's Alyssa Krupp and a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Kalamazoo's Caroline Norton.

In doubles play, Haley and Minassie fell to Chicago University's team 8-0 and to Ohio Northern's 8-2. Duran and Sertz fell 9-7 to the team from North Central College before falling 8-4 to Daria Beshentseva and Dana Blackwood from Kenyon College.

Next, the women will host Muskingum University on Sept. 29.
