Scots Cap Regular Season With 9-0 Win Over IU Kokomo

Emma Saxton
First-year Emma Saxton won at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles on Friday.

Junior Qingyue Li moved into fifth-place on The College of Wooster's women's tennis team's combined career wins list, and the Fighting Scots tuned-up for next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-0 win over Indiana University Kokomo on Friday afternoon at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.

Li's 8-0 win with junior Shannon Sertz at No. 1 doubles, plus her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kokomo's (7-13) Kelsey Kohlmorgen at the top flight, upped the junior's career total to 84, one better than Liz Richards' haul. In fact, the top three is within reach for Li, as Rachel Molé (86) and Helen Shepard (85) are currently third and fourth in combined career wins at the College.

Wooster (11-5) logged a strong showing in the top half of singles, as the Scots only dropped two games. Sophomore Sarah Duran cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, and that marked her 13th win at the flight this year. Noteworthy, Duran now has 27 career wins at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Sertz downed Brianne Abrahamson 6-1, 6-0, while first-year Meklit Minassie was also victorious in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 5.

Earlier in the match, Duran and sophomore Laura Haley won at No. 2 doubles 8-1, while an 8-6 victory was turned in by Minassie and first-year Emma Saxton at No. 3.

Wooster's regular season is now concluded. The Scots will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for the NCAC Tournament, which starts on Friday, April 26.
