Women's Tennis Competes in ITA Regional

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The College of Wooster women's tennis team took part in the ITA Division III Women's Central Regional Championship from Sept. 19-21 at Kalamazoo College.

In singles play, senior Qingyue Li fell in her first-round match to Hannah Johnson of Washington University 6-0, 7-5. She rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Brianna Barconi of Millikin University.

Li moved on to the quarterfinal after making a comeback against Jayde Robinson of Baldwin Wallace University in a 4-6, 6-2 (8) win. However, DePauw's Lillian Cameron stopped her soon after in a 6-0, 6-4 outcome.

First-year Ishika Gupta saw her first action in the ITA's and fell 6-1, 6-0 to Chicago University's Catherine Xu in the first round. She also rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Nina Pasquini of Elmhurst College, but fell to Sarah Robertson of Denison University 6-2, 6-2 in the second round of the consolation bracket.

In the doubles bracket, senior Shannon Sertz and first-year Kathryn Materick took an 8-5 win in the first round over Kalamazoo's Meghan Killmaster and Sophie Zhuang. Yet, Chicago's Xu once again got in the way as she teamed with Eugenia Lee to down the duo from Wooster 8-0.

Next, the women head to Columbus next Saturday for a match against Capital University at noon and a match against Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 3:30 p.m.
