Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The College of Wooster women's tennis team defeated Penn State Harrisburg 9-0 on Wednesday. Earlier in the week they defeated LeTourneau University 8-1 to start their spring break trip.
Against Penn State Harrisburg, Qingyue Li collected her 50th career win in singles play in the No. 1 flight 7-5, 7-6 (7-1). The 50 wins keeps her ranked third all-time in program history.
She also teamed with Sarah Duran to take the No. 2 doubles flight 8-0. The No. 3 team of Kathryn Materick and Abby Kushner Benson also picked up an 8-0 win. The No. 1 team of Shannon Sertz and Ishika Gupta won 8-2.
Materick at No. 4 and Amber Dinchman at No. 6 each collected 6-0, 6-0 wins. Duran won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 flight, and Sertz won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 flight.
Lastly, Laura Haley took a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 5 flight.
Against LeToureau, Wooster took all their wins in straight sets and started 3-0 after doubles play. In order, Gupta and Sertz won 8-3, Li and Duran won 8-0 and Kushner Benson and Materick won 8-1.
In singles, Wooster won all but the third flight. Li won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, and Gupta won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 flight. Sertz won at the No. 4 flight 6-3, 6-0; Materick won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and Haley took a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 6 flight.
Wooster improves to 7-3. The Scots return to action Thursday to face Rhodes College.
