Wooster Opens Season at Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE, Ohio – First-year Hayley Nash exploded onto the scene with 43 kills and 39 digs to headline The College of Wooster volleyball team's season-opening weekend at the University of Mount Union Invitational, held at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Wooster's (0-4) docket was book-ended with a pair of 20-win teams in 2018, including host Mount Union, which took Friday's opener 25-16, 25-15, 25-10. Nash's hot hand led to a dozen kills, while defensively, the rookie logged six digs. Junior Meghan Botsch paced the defense, where she came two digs shy of a double-double.

The College at Brockport, State University of New York topped Wooster 25-21, 25-20, 25-12 in Friday's nightcap. Senior Anna Medema served up four aces, while Nash and first-year Sydney Fitzcharles each finished with double-digit digs.

Nash's first double-double led Wooster during a 25-18, 25-18, 25-13 setback against Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon. The rookie had 13 digs to pair with 10 kills. Other stats to note included Fitzcharles' season-high 18 digs and Botsch's 16 assists.

Wooster's weekend wrapped up against Muskingum University, which topped the Scots 25-18, 25-16, 25-23. First-year Maley Tinstman saw her first extended collegiate action and responded with 14 assists and 11 digs. Nash paced Wooster with 13 kills, while sophomore Katie Billetdeaux gained some momentum to carry forward with a season-high six kills out of the middle.

Noteworthy, Nash's weekend culminated with a spot on the all-invitational team.

Up next is Wooster's home opener, which is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4 against John Carroll University.
