WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three student-athletes on The College of Wooster volleyball team logged double-digit kills, while junior Meghan Botsch finished three kills shy of a triple-double during the Fighting Scots' 26-28, 26-24, 25-16, 25-21 loss at Catholic University of America on Tuesday evening.

Wooster (7-12) sophomore Katie Billetdeaux saved set point three times in the opening frame as part of a four-kill opener. Senior Anna Medema's sixth kill of the set won it for Wooster, and the political science major was extra-active defensively with seven digs in the opener. First-year Emily Gail was kept busy as well with four kills on 12 swings. Her final kill came at 23-23.

First-year Sydney Fitzcharles, who had a team-high 22 digs, fired off three aces early in the second set, and the Scots were up 10-5 after kills from Gail, Billetdeaux, and Botsch capped a 10-2 stretch.  Senior Cami Miller's kill tied the frame at 24 all, and two points later, Catholic's (14-10) Caroline Kelly tied the match at one set each way with an ace.

Billetdeaux and sophomore Brooke Swain teamed up to stuff the Cardinals' Josephine Morrill at the net in the third set, and that made it a 14-13 frame. The Scots were within two as late as 17-15, thanks to Billetdeaux's ninth kill of the night.

Wooster was within one at 21-20 in the fourth set, with Miller's kill capping a 5-2 swing. Billetdeaux started the run with a kill, and that was quickly backed up with first-year Hayley Nash's ace.

Gail's 13 kills marked the team-high, while Billetdeaux was right behind at 12. Medema upped her digs' career-high for the third straight match, this time to 18. She had a double-double with 10 kills, as did Botsch with 37 assists and 10 digs.

Catholic's Morrill and Isabelle Cooper combined for 35 of the Cardinals' 56 kills, while Kelly led all players with 25 digs.

Wooster's two-game trip to Washington, D.C. continues on Wednesday, when the Scots play at Gallaudet University (5-19) at 7 p.m.
