Bertholf's Record Run Headlines Season-Opening Wooster Invitational

Aedan Pettit
Senior Aedan Pettit finished in the top 25 and was the Scots' No. 2 harrier on the night.

WOOSTER, Ohio - Sophomore Kayla Bertholf broke The College of Wooster women's cross country team's course record for the 4,000-meter race at the season-opening Wooster Invitational, hosted by the College at L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course on Friday evening.

Bertholf, who crossed third at 15:14.5, came in exactly five seconds better than alumna Erin Plews-Ogan's runner-up time of 15:19.5 at the 2012 invitational.

Classmate Isabelle Hoover's strong effort at the end resulted in a 15:40.7, and the classical languages major garnered a spot in the top-10. Sophomore Amirah Yessoufou placed 16th at 16:02.5, while first-years Abby Rice and Kate Larson rounded out Wooster's top five. Rice's 16:50 was good for 33rd-place, while Larson wasn't far behind at 16:55.8, which resulted in a 35th-place debut.

On the men's side, Miki Rae's impact was immediately felt after the senior missed the spring track and field season while studying abroad. The senior anchored Wooster's contingent at the meet with a 15th-place time of 22:12.5 on the four-mile course.

Classmate Aedan Pettit rounded out the Wooster finishers in the top 25. Pettit crossed at 23:34.1. Wooster's next three harrier came in with the pack, with junior Jackson Todd (23:57.6), junior Matt Klonowski (24:08.5), and sophomore Alexander DeLong (24:10.4) all finishing in the top 35.

Otterbein University's Jacob Thompson won the men's race at 20:51.8, while Oberlin College's Oona Jung-Beeman broke the tape in the women's race at 14:45.8.

Next, Wooster takes on Denison University in a dual meet at Granville, Ohio on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
