SAAC Celebrates the Year at the Scotties

The College of Wooster's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the "Scotties," an awards show modeled after the popular "ESPYS" on ESPN on Monday night. New this year, thanks to the support of the College's W Association, it was announced each senior student-athlete will be presented with a Wooster Student-Athlete stole to wear at Commencement from their head coach. W Association President and W Association Hall of Famer Erich Riebe '92 was on hand at the ceremony to make the announcement with Associate Athletic Director Libby Ladrach. Riebe and Ladrach presented the first two stoles to SAAC co-presidents Grace Lindgren '24 (women's golf) and Otilia Oita '24 (women's tennis).

For the Scotties, SAAC determines a list of awards, solicits nominations from students, coaches, and administrators, then students, coaches, and administrators vote for the winners. The winners were (note the Guldin Award, Manges Prize, and NCAC Scholar-Athlete Award winners will be featured in a separate release in the coming weeks with Wooster's nominees for the North Coast Athletic Conference Don Hunsinger and Pam Smith Awards):

First-Year Athlete of the Year
King Jeju – track and field
Ace Sturdivant – women's basketball

Sophomore Athlete of the Year
Lizzie Hardy – field hockey and women's lacrosse
Ryan Kramer – baseball

Junior Athlete of the Year
Ollie Bream – swimming and diving
Will Callender – cross country and track and field

Senior Athlete of the Year
Nick Everett – men's basketball
Ainsley Wiesner – track and field

Most Valuable Professor
Dr. Shelley Judge – earth sciences/Wooster FAR

Men's Basketball – 78-77 win over Wittenberg University for the program's sixth straight win over the archrival
Women's Golf – Winning three straight tournaments and a single-season program-record six tournaments overall. This team has also broken numerous school records this year.
