Productive Week Lands Chumita on D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Tyler Chumita, Wooster baseball D3baseball.com Team of the Week, Games May 2-8, 2022

Senior shortstop Tyler Chumita of The College of Wooster baseball team earned a spot on this week's D3baseball.com Team of the Week, which was announced on Wednesday morning.

The education and mathematics major surpassed 70 RBI on the year with a 13-RBI week for the Fighting Scots. Chumita's six-game stretch ended with a 3-for-4 performance with five RBI and three runs scored, as Wooster pulled away from Kenyon College to win 16-5 on Sunday in what resulted in a must-win game for the Scots to make this week's four-team North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The NCAC Athlete of the Week's 74 RBI are the most by a Scot since 1997, and he is three shy of matching W Association Hall of Famer and three-time American Baseball Coaches Association All-American Rick Sforzo's 1986 single-season program record of 77.

Of note, this is the third straight week a Wooster player made D3baseball.com's Team of the Week. First-year Nick Pett was selected for games played April 18-24 and junior Christian Johnston for games played April 25-May 1.

Wooster (27-12, 12-6) starts its pursuit of a NCAC-leading 14th conference tournament crown on Thursday, May 12. Wooster plays in the 8 p.m. game against Wittenberg University (27-10, 14-4 NCAC) at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
