Tyler Chumita, Wooster baseball

2022 D3baseball.com All-America Team

Tyler Chumita is an All-American again, as The College of Wooster baseball team's star shortstop was a fifth-team selection by D3baseball.com on Wednesday morning.

Chumita, Wooster's 11th great to earn All-America honors following two different seasons, drove in 84 runs this spring, the most in program history. He broke three-time All-American and W Association Hall of Famer Rick Sforzo's mark of 77 that stood since 1986 during the Alton Regional. The consensus first-team all-region selection and North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year ranks second nationally in RBI this spring, he currently ranks 11th in Div. III single-season history for most RBI, and he posted the second-highest RBI total in NCAC history.

The education and mathematics alumnus hit .372 (77-for-207) this spring, with his hits ranking 14th in program history and 21st within Div. III for 2022. He added 43 runs, 12 doubles, seven round-trippers, three triples, and 14 walks. Chumita, who had a .434 on-base percentage this spring, is currently tops in Div. III with 11 sacrifice flies, and had multiple RBI in 22 of Wooster's 52 games.

Chumita was a third-team American Baseball Coaches Association All-American in 2021, and the coaching organization is slated to announce its 2022 team on Thursday evening. Prior to Chumita, Michael Wielansky, the 2018 ABCA Div. III Position Player of the Year, was the last Scot to earn All-America honors following at least two seasons.

Wooster went 35-17 this spring and advanced to the NCAA Div. III Super Regionals.
