Senior Salute - Owen Barnard

Owen Barnard Q&A Throughout the spring semester we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Owen Barnard, a biology and environmental conservation major from Shaker Heights, Ohio. Barnard is a member of the baseball team. 

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster? 
A: It has a great balance between academics and athletics. 

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you? 
A: Winning in your sport and doing your best in the classroom. 

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster? 
A: Staying up late with friends procrastinating doing our lab reports and hanging out with my team on weekends. 

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster? 
A: The team around you becomes your best friends and you end up creating bonds that will last years. 

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport? 
A: I am on the stats crew for basketball and football and am part of the STEM Zone. 

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why? 
A: Dr. Carlo Moreno because he taught a class as a first-year which really influenced my decision to do a double major in environmental science. He has helped me as my Independent Study advisor. 

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster? 
A: Coach (Barry) Craddock helped to make sure I knew what my priorities were here at Wooster which helped me manage baseball and academics. 

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project? 
A: It is on integrated pest management for small-scale urban farms and focuses on techniques for protecting squash species. 

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster? 
A: I am an intern in the STEM Zone. 

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self? 
A: Make sure you get more sleep than you think you need.
