Mitchell Back On D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Grant Mitchell, Wooster baseball D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Junior shortstop Grant Mitchell's batting average and on-base percentage shot up like a rocket during The College of Wooster baseball team's four games last week, and that led to his second D3baseball.com Team of the Week selection of the spring.

Mitchell hit .667 (8-for-12) over the four-game stretch and had 11 RBI, six runs scored, seven walks, two doubles, two triples, and a homer. That impressive stat line led to his season average climbing from .231 to .313 and his on-base percentage shooting up to .421 from .298.

Mitchell, who hit safely in all four games, capped his week with a 5-for-7 afternoon in a sweep at Oberlin College. Mitchell drove in a career-high six runs in a 12-5 win, scored four times in the twin bill and walked five times. He started the week with a 2-for-3 effort in a five-inning weather-shortened affair with John Carroll University, which saw him blast his third homer of the year. He had a hit and two walks in Thursday's game against Mount Aloysius College. Notable, the shortstop did not strike out during the four-game stretch.

Mitchell was previously voted to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week on March 1 following the season lid-lifting doubleheader against Grove City College. In all, three D3baseball.com Team of the Week honors have come Wooster's way this spring.

Wooster (9-10) returns to action with a home game against Case Western Reserve University (11-11) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 6. The game was originally schedule for Wednesday, April 5, but was pushed back a day due to the possibility of severe weather in the region on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
