Senior Salute: Grant Mitchell

Grant Mitchell Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Grant Mitchell, a computer science major from Avon, Ohio. Mitchell is a member of the baseball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: The College of Wooster has a strong computer science program, and I liked the team dynamic when I came for visits.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means embracing the dedication, teamwork, and perseverance required to excel in both academics and sports, while also developing friendships with other peers on the team.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are traveling as a team down to Florida every spring break for 20 hours on the bus. Even though it is long, you get to spend a lot of time with your friends during the trip while also getting to play baseball in 80-degree weather.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is getting to make friends not only on your team, but with other teams on campus as well.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Matthew Johnson because he has been a great role model and coach for me at Wooster. Coach Johnson has taught me how to enjoy the game I play while also balancing it with hard work. He is also there whenever we need him.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am creating a software to help predict fraud for any sort of transaction using AI training models.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Our travels as a baseball team. We have gone to Chillicothe for the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament every year, Alton, Illinois for a region, Maryland for a super regional, Florida for spring break the past three years, and we traveled to Italy over fall break this year as a team.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Looking back on my time at Wooster, I would advise my first-year self to embrace every opportunity for personal and academic growth, maintain a healthy balance between studies and social life, and seek guidance and support from professors and peers whenever needed. Finally, have fun.
