Wooster Sweeps NCAC Weekly Awards

Mateo Renteria, Kobe Nadu, Wooster football The College of Wooster swept the North Coast Athletic Conference Football Athlete of the Week honors, with senior quarterback Mateo Renteria claiming the offensive prize and junior linebacker Kobe Nadu scoring the defensive award.

Renteria, now a three-time NCAC Athlete of the Week, became Wooster's all-time leading passer during Saturday's 49-21 win over Hiram College. The fifth-year starter exceeded alumnus Gary Muntean's total of 8,295 yards and reached 8,491 before exiting in the fourth quarter with the Fighting Scots comfortably ahead of the Terriers. Renteria matched Muntean for top billing in program history for touchdown passes, completing number 65 to senior tight end Cole Hissong in the fourth quarter. Renteria's 396 passing yards from Saturday are the fourth-most for the senior and he now has nine career 300-yard games.

Nadu dropped Hiram quarterback Xavier Reyero twice for two of Wooster's eight sacks in Saturday's 28-point win. The junior's first sack came on a second-and-4 play from Hiram's 37-yard line in the first quarter and went for a 10-yard loss. He later knocked Reyero back nine yards just before the end of the third quarter.

Wooster (2-0, 1-0 NCAC) hosts Wabash College (1-1, 0-0 NCAC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 17. The game is part of Black & Gold Weekend at the College.
