Barrett a Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

Lake Barrett, Wooster Football NFF Campbell Trophy Semifinalist Release

The College of Wooster's Lake Barrett is among the 156 semifinalists for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced by the organization on Wednesday morning.

Barrett was one of three Fighting Scots to enter the year with D3football.com Preseason All-America honors. Last year, the biology and education double major was voted a first-team College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-American, a second-team D3football.com all-region and All-NCAC honoree, and to CSC's Academic All-District team.

The Fred Mitchell Award nominee is among the most accurate placekickers in all of college football. He currently sits atop Wooster's leaderboard in career extra-point percentage (99 percent; 84-of-85) and field-goal percentage (80 percent; 20-of-25). His 84 extra points are the fourth-most in program history as are his 20 career field goals. As a junior, Barrett became the first placekicker in program history to make over 40 extra-point tries in a season without a miss. His 71 points were the second-most among placekickers in single-season program history.

As a first-year, Barrett exploded onto the scene with a record-setting season, and ended the year as an honorable mention All-NCAC selection. Barrett broke Wooster's single-season record with 11 made field goals and ranked 16th nationally with a 78.6 field-goal percentage.

Barrett's Independent Study project looks at squirrel melanism with genetic origins and possible functions of melanism mutation. He secured a $2,000 grant to conduct research for his I.S. in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

Earlier in his college career, Barrett studied abroad in Panama for a semester. There, he studied if agroforests can serve as a habitat for amphibians by looking at conservation, species diversity, evenness, and richness. He was a zoology lab assistant working with a colony of Strawberry Dart Frogs on campus and organized specimens in the College's natural history collection over the course of a full academic year.

Barrett has qualified for the Dean's List every semester and is a projected three-time member of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll.

The NFF will announce the 12-14 Campbell Trophy finalists on October 26, and each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One of the finalists will be named the winner of the Campbell Trophy at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 6 and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000. Each school is permitted to nominate one student-athlete each year for consideration for the Campbell Trophy and NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.
