Wooster Football Weekly Release (2022 Game 7) | Wooster Football Record Book | Spectator Information

A three-game homestand starts this week for The College of Wooster football team (3-3, 2-3 North Coast Athletic Conference). The Fighting Scots play their second non-conference game of the season against Hilbert College (0-4), a first-year football program, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22. Wooster, and the rest of the NCAC, needed to add a second non-conference game this year with Allegheny College leaving for the Presidents' Athletic Conference. This is Wooster's first time playing multiple non-conference games in the same season since 2012. Wooster is coming off a 42-41 win over Kenyon College, while Hilbert lost 70-0 to Lincoln University (California) on October 14. The Hawks opened the year with a 63-0 loss at home to Denison University and have upcoming games against Hiram College and Wittenberg University.

On The Air: MCTV produces Wooster's football livestream, which can be viewed at https://northcoastnetwork.com/Wooster. MCTV customers in Wayne and Stark Counties can catch replays of the game on Ch. 22 and Ch. 621 on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and should consult local listings for replay times. Q Media Wooster (WQKT/WKVX) will carry the game on WKVX 960 AM and online at https://wqkt.com.

All-Time Series: This is the first all-time meeting in the series, as Hilbert is a first-year program.

Last Time Out: Senior quarterback Mateo Renteria (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) accounted for 464 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in Wooster's 42-41 win at Kenyon on Saturday, October 15. Kenyon looked to go for the lead with :17 remaining on a two-point conversion; however the Owls were flagged for two penalties, which set up a 40-yard extra-point try for the tie, which was missed. Wooster covered up the onside kick to seal the victory.

Offense Notes: Renteria surpassed 9,000 career passing yards and threw his 70th touchdown pass in last Saturday's win. Both totals are career program records. The senior's 464 yards of total offense trail the 550 he had against Allegheny in 2021 and the 482 alumnus Gary Muntean rolled up at Hiram in 2015 on the program's single-game leaderboard. Renteria logged his 11th-career 300-yard passing game in Saturday's win. His five passing touchdowns trail only the six he threw against Allegheny last season for the most in program history. Renteria joined Muntean and W Association Hall of Famer Rich Judd as the lone quarterbacks to have multiple games with at least five passing touchdowns in program history. Renteria's five passing touchdowns against Kenyon marked the 30th time in program history a quarterback threw at least four passing touchdowns in a game. Sophomore Brazos Gadler (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) logged his second 100-yard game of the year with a career-high 154 yards on six receptions. Three of the receptions went for touchdowns, and that marked the 14th time in program history a Scot recorded at least three receiving touchdowns in a game.

Defense Notes: Senior Matt Ulishney (Greensburg, Pa./Serra District Catholic) reached 75 tackles on the year with a co-game-high 14 at Kenyon. Ulishney is just the second Scot in the last six years to reach 75 tackles in a season, joining alumnus Angelo Petracci, who logged 88 last year. Ulishney is second nationally in tackles per game, trailing Albright College's Sam Viera (12.8). Ulishney's 8.0 solo tackles per game are the third-most in Div. III this fall.

Special Teams Notes: Senior Matt Pardi (Arlington, Va./Washington-Liberty) continues to lead Div. III with 45.1 yards per punt, and the Scots are now first in net punting with 39.87 yards per boot. Senior Lake Barrett (Columbia, S.C./Hammond School) made his 70th consecutive extra-point kick in the win at Kenyon. Opponents are just 1-for-3 on the year when attempting field goals against the Scots, and Wooster's opposition has missed four extra-point tries.

This and That: Wooster will honor its senior class at approximately 12:35 p.m. Wooster has 24 seniors this year. Wooster's last game against a school from New York came on October 31, 1987 when the Scots lost 16-7 to the University of Rochester. Wooster's last win over a New York school came on September 18, 1976 - third-most recent game against a college in New York - when the Scots beat Canisius College 15-14. Wooster has five players on its team from New York - senior wide receiver Cristian Amesbury (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland), sophomore linebacker Ethan Dalton (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East), sophomore linebacker Liam Regan (Canandiagua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy), senior linebacker Chris Savaglio (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields), and senior defensive back Langston Williams (New York, N.Y./Xavier).
