Wooster Falls to DePauw

Shakir Perkins, Wooster Football WOOSTER, Ohio – A couple of well-timed run blitzes by junior Jon Banal and a late touchdown by The College of Wooster football team were a couple of the highlights in Saturday afternoon's 53-7 win by defending North Coast Athletic Conference champion DePauw University over the Fighting Scots at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (2-4, 1-3 NCAC) was given prime field position when DePauw (6-0, 4-0 NCAC) punter Ben Gomez mishandled a perfectly-centered snap with about 10:31 remaining in the game. Wooster sophomore Brock Sivon, who had a career-high 16 tackles, brought down the Tigers' punter at the Scots' 23-yard line. Sophomore quarterback Noah Clark connected with junior wideout Brazos Gadler on a stick-moving third-down catch that took the Scots down to the Tigers' 13-yard line. From there, sophomore running back Shakir Perkins did the rest, rushing for 11 to the Tigers' 2-yard line, and then in from a yard out to put the Scots on the board at the 7:58 mark of the fourth.

DePauw went for it on fourth-and-2 just past the midway point of the third quarter. Banal was right there, knifing into the backfield to swallow up ballcarrier Aidan Baker for a 3-yard loss. In the fourth quarter, DePauw again went to Baker, this time on a third-and-midrange conversion try, only Banal and sophomore linebacker Braydon Hudson were early arrivals in the backfield, spilling the Tigers' running back for a 5-yard setback.

Earlier in the game, Wooster converted on fourth-and-3 from its 32-yard line, turning to the trick well. First-year Hoodie Barnett Jr. took a direct snap with Wooster lined up in punt formation and went 10 yards on the carry.

DePauw scored six first-half touchdowns and tacked on four points via a pair of safeties.

Sophomore Chanden Lee completed 9-of-21 passes for 55 yards and he was picked off once. Gadler was the leading receiver with 31 yards on four catches. Perkins' 44 rushing yards were tops on the team. DePauw held Wooster to just 79 yards of offense.

Banal followed Sivon's 16 tackles with seven, while Hudson ended the day at five.

Nathan McCahill completed 12-of-18 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Caden Whitehead went for three touchdowns on 17 carries and ended the day with 82 yards on the ground. Robby Ballentine's four receptions, 97 yards, and touchdown led the Tigers' receivers.

Nate Glazebrook had five tackles and a sack to pace the Tigers' defense.

DePauw finished with 380 yards of offense. The Tigers were 4-for-10 on third down compared to 3-for-15 for Wooster.

Next, Wooster is at Denison University (4-3, 3-2 NCAC) for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday, October 21.
