Centre Holds Off Late Wooster Surge for 1-0 Triumph

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster had three penalty corner opportunities during the last minute of regulation Saturday afternoon, but could not extend Centre College into overtime as the Colonels hung on for a 1-0 shutout in field hockey play at Andrew Field inside John P. Papp Stadium.

The non-conference match-up was a defensive struggle throughout, as most of the action took place in the middle of the field. During a rare push inside the circle late in the first half, Centre's Alexis Hebert made a short pass to teammate Jessica McLean, who found an opening in the lower right corner from about 10 yards out. That turned out to hold up as the lone goal.

Wooster (0-2) was limited to six shots, just two coming in the second half, however, it looked like the Fighting Scots had something brewing the final 60 seconds. Wooster broke through the circle and forced the series of corners, but was unable to muster an attempt on goal.

The Scots conclude their three-game, season-opening homestand on Tuesday when conference foe Denison University visits at 4:30 p.m.
