The College of Wooster field hockey team extended its season-long winning streak to five games Wednesday afternoon, using a first-half goal and assist from Eileen Barrer and a strong second-half defensive effort to defeat North Coast Athletic Conference foe Denison University 2-1 in Granville, Ohio.

Two of the game's three goals came during the opening 10 minutes. First, Wooster (10-5, 7-2 NCAC), now winners of eight of its last nine, lit up the scoreboard when Barrer drove in a loose ball following a penalty corner just 7:06 into the action. Denison (6-10, 4-6 NCAC) answered on the next shot attempt, with Catie Merrick finishing a breakaway attempt at the 9:12 mark.

Barrer set up what turned out to be the game-winner, threading a pass to Amanda Artman, who one-timed it into the left corner to give the Fighting Scots back the lead 23:31 into the first half.

The Big Red put a series of four shots on Wooster's cage early in the second half, but Liz Plumley was there each time, recording two of her six saves for the game during that stretch. She also made one during a corner attempt with just 1:16 remaining that helped seal the victory.

The Scots continue their NCAC slate on Saturday, as Kenyon College (9-8, 7-2 NCAC) visits Andrew Turf Field at John P. Papp Stadium for a noon face-off.
