WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart during the final 10 minutes of the first half and controlled the action throughout most of the second, eventually adding a third score to secure a 3-1 victory over Kenyon College in a North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey tilt Saturday afternoon at an overcast John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (11-5, 8-2 NCAC), which in its last outing became the eighth program in NCAA Div. III history to reach 500 all-time wins, fell behind midway through the opening half when Kenyon (9-9, 7-3 NCAC) gained possession of a loose ball inside the circle, with Sarah McNee driving in from the right and scoring.

The pressure the Fighting Scots continued to put on the Ladies' defense – they outshot their visitors 17-4 each half – paid off. With just under 10 minutes before the halftime break, Eileen Barrer made a run inside the circle and put back-to-back attempts on the cage. While she didn't score, the second ultimately resulted in a penalty stroke, which Amanda Artman converted to tie the game 1-1.

Artman notched her second goal in impressive fashion moments later, as she took the ball around midfield, weaved through multiple defenders on her way inside the circle at the right wing, and then blasted the shot to the left corner.

The second half consisted of a series of quality scoring chances for Wooster, but the Ladies' goalie, Sydney Carney-Knisley, kept her team in it, making 11 of 20 saves for the game. Finally, the Scots broke through when Artman sent a long pass up the midfield to Barrer, who got behind the defense, and the latter fired one in from the right wing.

Liz Plumley countered Carney-Knisley with a four-save performance en route to the win.

Wooster will be right back in action Sunday, as St. Vincent College visits Papp Stadium for a 3 p.m. match-up.
