WOOSTER, Ohio – In a game that featured exceptional defensive play by both teams, The College of Wooster eventually defeated Ohio Wesleyan University in dramatic fashion, as Clare Nelson-Johnson scored the game's only goal late in overtime to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 victory Saturday morning in North Coast Athletic Conference action at John P. Papp Stadium.

The Scots (1-2, 1-0 NCAC) almost ended the overtime period quickly when Isabelle Howes got loose and blasted a wide-open shot on goal, but goalkeeper Emily Temple stepped out to make a critical save. Then later in the period, the Bishops (1-2, 0-1 NCAC) nearly won the game themselves, but Macie Miller had her shot deflected by Liz Plumley, increasing the likelihood that a second overtime would be needed.

Then with just two minutes remaining in the extra stanza, Nelson-Johnson cut from the left-wing into the center of the field, and fired a shot past the 'keeper to give Wooster their first win of the season. It was Nelson-Johnson's 12th career goal.

Ohio Wesleyan appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead in the first half when Jenna Ortega beat the 'keeper on a shot off of a penalty corner, but the officials would wave off the goal because Ortega was just outside of the striking circle.

Wooster's best scoring chances during regulation came in the second half, when Amanda Graeser and Nelson-Johnson fired off back-to-back shots that got saved and missed wide, respectively.

Plumley played the entire 83 minutes in goal to notch her second career shutout. She recorded four saves in the contest, while her counterpart, Temple, tallied five saves.

Next up, the Scots will visit Transylvania University tomorrow at 11 a.m.
