WOOSTER, Ohio – A goal less than five minutes into the action stood up as the game's only score, as The College of Wooster held off archrival Wittenberg University for a 1-0 "Homecoming" victory on Saturday morning at an unseasonably cold, wet John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (6-5, 5-2 NCAC) controlled possession in the early going and earned a penalty corner, which the Fighting Scots took advantage of. After the ball was driven to the top of the circle, it was passed to the left wing where Dana Feit sent it towards the right post and Isabelle Howes deflected it in, marking the junior forward's fourth goal this fall.

With a 1-0 lead in hand, Wooster continued to dictate play for most of the half. However, it was Wittenberg (4-6, 3-4 NCAC) that may have had the next-best scoring chance when Beth Warning got free on the right wing and fired a shot toward the near post, only to see Scot goalie Liz Plumley hold her ground and come up with the save.

A little more than 11 minutes into the second half, Wooster had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0, but Wittenberg 'keeper Jenny Schaafsma saved a penalty stroke.

The Tigers seemed to carry that momentum through the remainder of the time, but the Scots' defense was equal to the task. Wittenberg earned five corner opportunities over the final seven minutes, with its best chance coming around the 2:45 mark when Audrey Phibbs had a point-blank shot, stopped by Plumley with her left foot to preserve the win.

Plumley wound up with eight saves to Schaafsma's two.

Next for Wooster, Denison University (9-1, 6-1 NCAC) comes to town Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
