WOOSTER, Ohio – Denison University scored twice late in the opening half, the key sequence during a 3-0 decision over The College of Wooster in the teams' North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey tilt Wednesday on Andrew Turf Field at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (6-6, 5-3 NCAC) had the ball in Denison's (10-1, 7-1 NCAC) defensive half for the majority of the first half, including three penalty corners within the opening six minutes, but was unable to get many quality looks at the cage.

The momentum suddenly shifted when the Big Red's Katie McMahon drove down the right side, then inside the circle, and slid a shot to the left for the game's first score with 7:43 left on the clock. A little over two minutes later, McMahon was in the middle of another goal, this time emerging from a scramble in front of the cage and tapping it to Catie Merrick, who finished the play for a 2-0 lead.

That scoring combination worked again about eight minutes into the second when McMahon took a point-blank shot near the right-post that was initially saved by Liz Plumley, only to be rebounded in by Merrick.

Highlights for the Fighting Scots included a Lauren Grimanis defensive save to keep the score 3-0, two stops by backup 'keeper Meredith Farley, and a flurry of late shots that gave them a final edge of 9-8 in that category.

Wooster will be at Ohio Wesleyan University (4-7, 2-6 NCAC) this Saturday at 11 a.m.
