An early goal in the second half for Kenyon College broke a 1-1 tie and turned out to be the difference, as The College of Wooster dropped a closely-contested North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey tilt 2-1 at Gambier, Ohio, Tuesday afternoon.

Leah Jacques of Kenyon (5-8, 5-4 NCAC) scored unassisted 3:48 into the second for the hosts' second one-goal advantage of the day. From that point, Wooster (6-8, 5-5 NCAC) earned three penalty corners and took two shots, but could not come up with the equalizer.

In the first half, the Ladies struck first exactly 19 minutes into the action, only to see the Fighting Scots even the scoreboard 7:02 later when Clare Nelson-Johnson rattled the cage after receiving a pass from Brittany Braun. It marked Nelson-Johnson's team-leading eighth goal, but first in four games, and for Braun, it was her third career assist.

Wooster used two goalkeepers, with Liz Plumley making four saves and Madalyn Myers two during 28:03 scoreless action.

The Scots head to Indiana this weekend for a pair of conference games at last-place Earlham College (1-10, 0-9 NCAC) Friday and at first-place DePauw University (11-1, 8-0 NCAC) Saturday.
