A stingy defensive effort allowed The College of Wooster to cruise to a 2-0 victory at Earlham College, as the Fighting Scots held the Quakers without a single shot during Friday's North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey contest at Richmond, Ind.

Wooster (7-8, 6-5 NCAC) was credited with five shots during the first half, but could not crack the scoreboard. The Scots then ratcheted up the intensity and quickly connected on a goal, with top scorer Clare Nelson-Johnson coming through for an unassisted tally just 2:39 into the second. With exactly 19 minutes remaining, Laura German tacked on an insurance goal, one of the squad's 14 shots over the second 35 minutes.

The defensive effort was the story of the game, however, it was nothing new for Wooster against Earlham (1-12, 0-10 NCAC). The Scots also limited the Quakers without a shot in the teams' meeting in Wooster just last fall (Oct. 30, 2010).

Statistically, goalie Madalyn Myers was credited with her second shutout of the season and ninth of her career, which puts her in a tie for seventh all-time in team history in that category.

Wooster will complete its two-day Indiana swing with a tilt at DePauw University (11-1, 8-0 NCAC) Saturday at 1 p.m.
